“To feed, serve and walk with the poor as a community of hope in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.”
Sponsored by the Knights of Malta, a group of our 8th graders, alumni and staff spent Saturday morning, (January 10th) “Serving Hope,” (breakfast to those in need) at the St. Francis Center in downtown Los Angeles. We arrived bright and early and were assigned an array of duties from chopping veggies, scrambling eggs, setting up tables, serving coffee, and much more. Around 8:15, we gathered for prayer and serving assignments. We served a hearty sit-down breakfast to 160+ guests. As 10 a.m. rolled around and the guests dwindled, we were able to chat and dine with those that remained.
It was a very rewarding experience for all and I know that all enjoyed themselves and felt challenged and moved by this opportunity to put their faith into action. This was the second service project to the St. Francis Center (one last year). I hope to schedule another one in the spring. If you feel moved to join us … be sure to talk to me (Mrs. McFadden) ahead of time, since the spaces fill up quickly.
